Gather.Com notes that one particular website (womentalksports.com) that really is unhappy with the cover and slams SI for their covers of women. The post notes the opinion of the writer, "When females are featured on the cover of SI, they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action-and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception." The site believes Sports Illustrated may have crossed the line with the picture noting that “female athletes are RARELY featured on the cover”. They also cite that about 4% of the covers since 60 years ago show women. The website also notes that when women are on the SI covers “they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action-and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception.” Vonn is depicted in a skiing pose and fully clothed on the cover.
I love when these groups (sarcasm) come out and bring attention to something that otherwise would have been a non-issue. I saw this cover and thought nothing of it, I mean she is a skiier and thats how she looks when she skis. This is like showing Lebron taking a shot, or Peyton Manning throwing a football - that is what they do and that is how they look when they do it.
However, now that they bring this to my attention, they bring to light something that as a guy, I can now see and enjoy looking at (I mean Lindsey Vonn is indeed very attractive- see below).
Again, these groups bring things to our attention, that would have been a non-issue.
Check out some Lindsey Vonn highlights and her interview. Hope she does better than Bode Miller did in 2006 after all of his hype!

However, again, I would have never thought of this had this WOMEN's group not brought it up.
As for women on SI covers, I did my own research and went back to 1995 and below you can see ever woman featured on the cover, excluding Swimsuit issues. Of course those pictures are meant to be provocative, but to disprove their theory of “they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action-and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception” take a look below and note that NOT ONE is in a provocative position, and 4 of the 6 are actually IN ACTION (Mia Hamm is at least jogging). Pro Choice Female FOR The Tim Tebow Ad
Sally Jenkins - Washington Post: Here's what we do need a lot more of: Tebows. Collegians who are selfless enough to choose not to spend summers poolside, but travel to impoverished countries to dispense medical care to children, as Tebow has every summer of his career. Athletes who believe in something other than themselves, and are willing to put their backbone where their mouth is. Celebrities who are self-possessed and self-controlled enough to use their wattage to advertise commitment over decadence.
You know what we really need more of? Famous guys who aren't embarrassed to practice sexual restraint, and to say it out loud. If we had more of those, women might have fewer abortions. See, the best way to deal with unwanted pregnancy is to not get the sperm in the egg and the egg implanted to begin with, and that is an issue for men, too -- and they should step up to that.
Continues to point out another very important fact about the commercial:
Tebow's ad, by the way, never mentions abortion; like the player himself, it's apparently soft-spoken. It simply has the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life." This is what NOW has labeled "extraordinarily offensive and demeaning." But if there is any demeaning here, it's coming from NOW, via the suggestion that these aren't real questions, and that we as a Super Bowl audience are too stupid or too disinterested to handle them on game day.

Some Superbowl Ads to Look for This Weekend
And here is a classic that will be redone this year with Lebron and Howard:
Marshawn Lynch Backs Up The Beast Mode Nickname
ESPN Sports Science: Although Marshawn Lynch's disappointing lack of production didn't show it for the Buffalo Bills in 2009, he's one of the NFL's hardest-running backs.
In the latest installment of "Sports Science," host John Brenkus endeavors to ask the question: What can actually generate more power? An NFL running back or a diesel truck?
"Sports Science" fitted Lynch with wireless sensors, harnessed him to sled a stacked with 225-pound tires and asked him to drag the 585 pounds for 5 yards.
To match his power-to-weight ratio, a 325-horse power pickup truck was chained to 17,000 pounds. The truck spun its wheels.
When the numbers were crunched, it was determined Lynch is seven times more powerful than a diesel truck.
I always knew this guy was a powerful runner but this is a bit absurd, don't you think? Wonder how many other running backs can do the same thing. Hopefully he can get back to delivering this on the field, since this year he was basically replaced by Fred Jackson, an undrafted former DIII college player.
As for Beast Mode - Here is the definition from the man himself:

Can People Just Give the Kid a chance?!?!
Many believe the Jags will take the local hero Tim Tebow in the draft in order to help fill seats. Well if that happens, 1 of his potential offensive linemen does not have much faith is his ability:
Yahoo Sports reports that [Offensive lineman Uche] Nwaneri posted on the Jaguars’ Web site that, while cashing a check, a bank teller started talking about how Tebow will save the Jaguars.
So Nwaneri posted his five points on Tebow, with capital letters:
"1. He can't throw, PERIOD.
2. He can't read any coverage other than probably cover 2 or man.
3. The QB Wildcat WILL NOT WORK IN THIS LEAGUE. PERIOD.
4. He doesn’t know how to take a snap from center.
5. HE CAN’T THROW, and that’s really something you either have or not."
As a fan, the more this kid gets heat, the more I hope and think he will succeed. He has really done nothing wrong to deserve all this animosity. Let the kid try his best to be an NFL QB, should he fail, then he will move on and be successful elsewhere, I am sure. The NFL could use a character player like Tim Tebow.
Hopefully he brings his girlfriend - if this is really her:

Michigan Only Recruits "MICHIGAN MEN"
The winningest program of all time only recruits high character athletes who are "Michigan Men." Or so I thought.
Here is the latest example of a Michigan Man who will be on the football team next year getting a free ride at this elite university.
The Free Press cites online court records that indicate Dorsey, then 16 years old, was arrested on July 21, 2008 and charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. He was charged as an adult but was acquitted after bond was set at $50,000.
Dorsey, when he was 17, was charged on Aug. 22, 2008 with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. Prosecutors dismissed the charge that December.

Jersey Girl Of The Day - National Letter of Intent Edition
Well it looks like Florida will close with the top class for 2010. In honor of some of the other top 5 classes, here are todays Jersey Girls Of The Day.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Penn State may have a pleasant problem at QB
As mentioned below, Penn State has one of the top classes coming in, and may have a problem on its hands with 3 quarterbacks looking to win the starting job, each of which was a top 10 recruit. (Kevin Newsome in 2009 and now Robert Bolden and Paul Jones in 2010).
As Joe Juliano of Philly.com Sports writes, Penn State is the only school on Scout.com's recruiting list that signed a pair of top-10 quarterbacks, something that can be a blessing and a curse at the same time.
How will Joe handle his "problem" of having such young talent battle for the starting job?
April 24th is the annual Blue White Spring game where some of these questions should begin to get answered.
Let the countdown begin!

Signing Day Is Upon Us
ESPN.com: The ESPN recruiting class rankings have been updated one more time, and both Penn State and Ohio State moved up a spot.
Penn State, which will sign the Big Ten's top class today, moves from No. 7 to No. 6. It marks Penn State's highest final ranking since ESPN's Scouts Inc. started rating the classes in 2006. Credit goes to D-line coach Larry Johnson, defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator Mike McQueary and others for bringing in a ton of excellent prospects, especially on the defensive side. Despite head coach Joe Paterno's uncertain future, Penn State continues to make strides in recruiting.
Ohio State also moves up a spot from No. 14 to No. 13. Scouts Inc.'s Tom Luginbill praised the depth and balance in the Buckeyes' class, which won't go down as one of the team's best but addresses needs at wide receiver and defensive line.
Michigan held at No. 20 in the recruiting rankings. While the Wolverines have only one ESPNU 150 prospect (QB Devin Gardner), the class is large and includes several solid defensive prospects.
Say what you will about the north and old Joe Paterno, but he has his Nittany Lions as the only Northern School with a top 10 class for 2010, and the best class of his 44 year career as head coach of the Football program at Penn State.
The Nittany Lions have addressed some of their top needs such as Linebacker with the addition of names like Khairi Fortt (4 Star from Stamford, Ct.), and Mike Hull (4 Star from Canonsburg, Pa.), Quarterback with the addition of guys such as Robert Bolden and Paul Jones, two of the top ten quarterbacks according to Rivals.
Names such as Dakota Royer (4 Star DE from Manheim, Pa), Silas Redd (4 Star RB from Stamford, Ct) and Miles Dieffenbach (4 Star, 4th ranked Center in the country from Pittsburgh, Pa) will all help bolster the depth at their positions for the Nittany Lions.
Signing day is not over yet, so look for some more surprise moves around the country.

Why The NCAA Tournament Expansion Is A Bad Idea
USA TODAY: The NCAA's exploration of an expanded Division I men's basketball tournament has touched a nerve among some disapproving schools and conferences.
Critics, including influential Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, are expressing concern about watering down the sport's signature event, devaluing conference tournaments and further eroding interest in college basketball's regular season.
Some complain that the NCAA has moved too stealthily in proposing changes to the 65-team bracket — taking it to 68 teams or more radically to 96 — and shopping them to television networks.

How can we make the College Basketball season even MORE irrelevant?
You see that bracket above? Well soon you won't be able to make it "FIT TO PAGE" when you print it out in March.
On one hand we cannot even get a 4 team playoff in Football, but we can expand to 96 teams in Basketball?!?! Does that make sense? I thought part of the reason we cannot get a playoff in football is because these are in-fact students who do need to attend classes. Well expanding the Basketball tournament will lead to adding at least one extra week on the current three week schedule in March. Basically a full month will be occupied by this sporting event; a full month, where most schools may have 1 week off for spring break. During the football season, students are off basically from Mid-December through Mid January, meaning there is more room for a playoff in Football when you consider the “class” implications.
I am not for a blown out Football playoff, I would rather see a small 8 team bracket, (maybe 16) with my main concern being the integrity of the regular season. Well when you take into account that the regular season for NCAA Basketball is already somewhat meaningless given how many teams make the tournament, adding teams will just make it that much less.
Right now, there are talks of UNC and/or UCONN both missing the tournament due to their lack of quality wins this year. This is big news because these are two of the elite programs, and missing the tournament is very rare for them. When you look at these teams, they may in fact NOT deserve to be in the bracket, even at 64 teams, however at 96 or more, they will most definitely get in. This makes the “playoff” not really representative of the best teams that are most qualified to participate.
Another thought that is interesting is that once again, the NCAA shows how everything is driven by money, even when in the two sports, the reasons are contradictory.
In football, we have a program that brings in tons of money through sponsorships and the BCS, with the NCAA Presidents using the “Student” factor as the driving force behind not expanding to a playoff – when really we know the truth, these sponsors bring in so much money that at this point the Presidents do not want to change anything with the risk of losing what is currently so lucrative. A change here would result in more than just “tweaks” to the system, and the Presidents are in a fear of an overhaul.
On the other hand, in Basketball, we have a tournament that makes so much money, obviously growing it for another week expands the PLAYOFF along with the ad time that they will sell, resulting in more sponsorship dollars.
So what we have here is sponsorship dollars being the driving factor behind both decisions, however in one case it’s being used to prevent a playoff, while in the other case it’s being used to expand a playoff. Interesting logic by these NCAA Presidents.
NCAA is one of the most inconsistent and poorly run organization in sports and needs an overhaul of its own. Overtime, as new, younger leaders are in place in these positions of power , the NCAA should begin to improve its way of thinking.
In the meantime, we will continue to hear them discuss why we don’t need a playoff in Football, but need a bigger one in basketball.

NFL All Decade Team
One can argue that the Buffalo Bills have been the worst team in the AFC in the 2000's. They are the only team without a playoff berth all decade (Houston Texas were an expansion team in 2002 and also did not make the playoffs all decade, but again they were an expansion team in 2002.) So when looking at the all decade team, it was clear to me that I would not find any Buffalo Bills on the list. However, I was proven wrong, and I should have known. When you are that bad for that long, one player on the team gets to exhibit his talent more than he would on any other decent team - The Punter!
The Buffalo Bills remind me, and all of us just how bad this decade was with their one lone member of the all decade team being Brian Moorman.
Brian Moorman is so good, or the Bills are so bad, that when you go to a Bills game, you actually see fans wearing a Moorman jersey! Who goes out to buy the jersey of a punter?!?! Well when your team is this bad for this long, I guess Bills fans do.
Moorman takes a huge hit here by the late Sean Taylor during a pro bowl, gets up, finds Taylor and pats him on the head for the big hit....THAT's how good Moorman is:
Brian Moorman is the Bills best running back:
Now here is the team:
The NFL's All-Decade Team
Quarterback -- Tom Brady, Peyton Manning
Running Backs -- Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Edgerrin James, LaDainian Tomlinson
Offensive Tackles -- Walter Jones, Jonathan Ogden, Orlando Pace, William Roaf
Offensive Guards -- Larry Allen, Alan Faneca, Steve Hutchinson, Will Shields
Fullback -- Lorenzo Neal
Tight Ends -- Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez
Wide Receivers -- Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens
Centers -- Olin Kreutz, Kevin Mawae
Head Coaches -- Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy
Defensive Ends -- Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers, Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor
Cornerbacks -- Ronde Barber, Champ Bailey, Ty Law, Charles Woodson
Linebackers -- Derrick Brooks, Ray Lewis, Joey Porter, Zach Thomas, Brian Urlacher, DeMarcus Ware
Defensive Tackles -- La'Roi Glover, Warren Sapp, Richard Seymour, Kevin Williams
Safeties -- Brian Dawkins, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, Darren Sharper
Punters -- Shane Lechler, Brian Moorman
Kickers -- David Akers, Adam Vinatieri
Punt Returners -- Dante Hall, Devin Hester
Kick Returners -- Joshua Cribbs, Dante Hall

Klown Of The Day

Rex Ryan continues to behave more like a drunk fan(ataic) than an adult employee of the NFL. Its only a matter of time before his behavior gets him pushed out of New York.
MIAMI -- New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has apologized for flipping a middle finger at Miami Dolphins fans at a mixed martial arts event Saturday night in Sunrise, Fla.
Rex Ryan apologized in a statement released by the Jets after flipping his middle finger at Dolphins fans at an MMA event in Miami on Saturday.
A photo of Ryan's rejoinder to boisterous Dolphin fans was captured by a cell phone camera and forwarded to Jorge Sedano of 790 The Ticket, an ESPN Radio affiliate in Miami.
"It was stupid and inappropriate," Ryan said in a statement released by the club. "I wouldn't accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players and its unacceptable from me. I apologize to the Jets organization, the National Football League and NFL fans everywhere."
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum also released a comment.
"Rex showed extremely poor judgment, and his conduct was inappropriate," Tannenbaum said. "He knows he was wrong, has apologized and we have accepted his apology. Any other actions regarding this incident will be addressed internally by the organization."
The MMA event featured former NFL running back Herschel Walker making his debut and was televised by Showtime.
Ryan elicited loud boos from the crowd when a ringside Showtime interview was shown on the Bank Atlantic Center video scoreboard.
"I'd like to thank everybody here in Miami. I know they love me," Ryan said with a grin.
"I want to just tell everybody in Miami, hey, we're coming to beat you twice next year."
